GES2490Applied Geography and Field Studies (6 points)(ARTS) Leader: Dr Lauren Costello
Offered: Synopsis: The main objectives of this unit are to provide a grounding in research practice and develop familiarity with professional skills. This unit includes an introduction to the characteristics of information and presentation of information and data. Preparation and use of questionnaire surveys, interview and other qualitative research methods. Students develop a research project which they carry out during a four-day field trip. Assessment: Research report (2000 words): 40% + Practicals: (equivalent to 1500 words): 40% + Examination (1 hour): 20% Contact Hours: 3 hours (1 x 1 hour lecture and 1 x 2 hour tutorial) per week Prerequisites: A first year sequence in Geography or permission Prohibitions: GES3420 |
