Synopsis: Overview of database management systems; introduction to the relational model. Database design: Entity Relationship modelling, Normalisation, Database Design Language. Database administration, database security and recovery, distributed databases, object oriented databases, data warehousing, and current trends in the field. Interactive SQL and SQL programming. Database system development using Microsoft Visual Basic and embedded SQL.

Assessment: Assignments (3): 40% + Examination (3 hours): 60%

Contact Hours: 4 hours per week
