Synopsis: An introduction to statistical methods as an aid to description and decision making; collection, presentation and interpretation of data; descriptive statistics; calculation and interpretation of index numbers and their application to economic measurements; introduction to random sampling and the sampling distribution of the sample mean; economic surveys; estimation and testing of the population mean; introduction to simple linear regression and its application to linear trend analysis for time series; its application to economic forecasting.

Assessment: Three assignments: 30% + Examination (2 hours): 70%
