Synopsis: Basic building blocks and fundamental concepts of matter. States of aggregation. Applications to general chemical reactions, acid and base behaviour, and redox systems. Common inorganic and organic compounds, which are the basis for many engineering materials, are then considered. Interwoven with this subject matter are the ideas of measurement, errors and uncertainties, and efficient problem solving.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 70% + Weekly tests: 30%

Prohibitions: VCE Chemistry 3/4 or equivalent
