Synopsis: The nature of 'quality', and measures for promoting it in ways that do not threaten or compromise other good things in our education and social system. International reform initiatives. Issues, trends and problems to enhance the understanding of policy-makers, administrators, teachers and parents. Empirical work of quantitative and qualitative kinds. The unit enables students to develop their own philosophy of quality education.

Assessment: Seminar Presentation (= 2000 words) 25%; Essay (4000 words for MEd students, 6000 words for EdD students): 75%
