Crucial Issues in Living (12 points)

Synopsis: Research into the issues commonly raised by clients in a variety of counseling settings has shown that there is a core of problems which frequently occur. These concern several areas; firstly, difficulties arising in relationships, including personal, family, work and community relationships; secondly, conflicts within an individual's personality habits, and thirdly, challenges to do with maturation and aging. This unit aims to provide students with background information on these issues and on methods of dealing with them. The unit will also include common techniques used in counseling to help individuals cope with the stress, caused by these problems.

Assessment: 1. A case study illustrating in practical detail particular techniques. Word length: 3000 (50%) + 2. An essay on a critical issue in counseling. Word Length: 3000 (50%).
