EDF6517Advanced Counselling (12 points)(EDU) Leader: Dr P Greenway & Dr J Simmonds
Offered: Synopsis: This unit provides instruction and practice in several therapeutic approaches employed by counselling psychologists. Psychodynamic/existential therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, and constructivist approaches are covered in the first sequences, and issues of engagement and resistance are addressed. In the linked topics on 'counselling more than one', couple, family, group, and organisational counselling are studied and practised primarily through systems and psychodynamic approaches. Extensive class notes and reading materials are provided. Assessment: One case study of (3000 words): 50% + one essay of (3000 words):50% Contact Hours: 3 hours each week Off-campus attendance requirements: Off-campus students must attend a one-week Residential School Prerequisites: Successful completion of EDF6501 (or exemption for students with proven knowledge and competencies in the field of counselling) |
