Method and Practice of Teaching Languages other than English (LOTE) 2A (6 points)

Synopsis: This unit provides students with an overview and general rationale for the teaching of a LOTE in primary schools. Topics include government language policy, current research in bilingualism, methods for setting up a LOTE program, current issues in LOTE education including PALS and the articulation between primary and secondary school LOTE programs, and various models for teaching LOTE in the primary school.

Assessment: Two assignments (2500 -3000 words in total) 45% each; oral presentation 10%.

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Prerequisites: A 3 year post Year 12 major in a Language Other Than English at tertiary level or its equivalent
