Method and Practice of Teaching Visual Arts 2A (6 points)

Synopsis: This unit will provide an introduction to teaching and curriculum in art appreciation, history and theory. Particular emphasis is placed upon the study of contemporary Australian art in the secondary school visual arts curriculum. Students will be required to design and demonstrate lessons in aspects of art appreciation and art history at a range of levels in the secondary school.

Assessment: (Clayton on campus FT students): Minor research project (1500 words): 30% + Series of short prescribed Readings & associated tasks (equivalent 2500 words): 70% + Successful completion of supervised school experience + (Gippsland off-campus students): Minor research project (1500 words): 30% + Readings & Tasks (2500 words): 70%

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Prerequisites: Two full years of study in visual art at tertiary level
