Method and Practice of Teaching Jewish Studies A (6 points)

Synopsis: This method subject draws on students from a wide Judaic scholastic base and from a broad variety of academic and experiential backgrounds in Jewish Studies which may include Hebrew Literature and Language, Jewish History and Civilisation, Philosophy and Jewish Law and Text-based Judaic Studies. In this unit students will investigate the nature and aims of Jewish Education and learn to plan units of work in a variety of areas in Jewish Studies.

Assessment: A precondition for a pass in this method is a pass in Teaching Practice and an 80% attendance rate for all timetabled classes. Students must also have attained a satisfactory level of achievement for each of the following tasks: an essay on Jewish Philosophy-20 %, Seminar preparation and presentation-30%, a Project involving the development of a unit of work on either Jewish History or an aspect of the Jewish Religion-50%

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Prerequisites: Recognised three-year degree or equivalent . Preferred candidates must have undertaken studies in one or both (1) Hebrew literature (2) Language and Jewish studies/history
