Method and Practice of Teaching Psychology B (6 points)

Synopsis: Preparation for teaching psychology in post-primary schools as a discrete unit in middle school and Years 11 and 12 and in a range of middle school and junior school units such as health, life skills, personal development, pastoral care and social education. Design, implementation and evaluation of effective curriculum and teaching programs. Teaching skills and various resources and strategies including observations, field studies and experiments. Ethical issues.

Assessment: Lesson plans: 40% + Curriculum resources to support one area of unit 2 or 4 (equivalent to 2000 words): 40% + Use of technology resources in psychology, eg CD ROM or internet: 20% + students must complete at least 45 days teaching practice (50 for Double Degree students) per year and gain a rating of 'Satisfactory' for this teaching practice + Student participation in the unit is vital and an 80% attendance requirement for on-campus students and 80% on-line participation for off-campus students is required.
