Method and Practice of Teaching Mathematics A (6 points)

Synopsis: The unit will be based on a number of broad objectives which will enable successful students to (a) broaden their awareness of mathematics as a unit; (b) develop a knowledge of teaching styles and methods in mathematics; (c) explore the needs of various groups of children; (d) develop a knowledge of the resources available to a teacher of mathematics; (e) learn essential parts of school mathematics not previously studied.

Assessment: Teaching round observation and reflection 30% (1000 words) + Content area analysis 70% (3000 words) + Student participation in the unit is vital either on-campus or via the on-line forum.

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Prerequisites: Mathematics minor
