Method and Practice of Teaching English A (6 points)

Synopsis: This is the first unit in a sequence of two units which will develop student capabilities in developing appropriate curriculum and pedagogy in the key learning area of English curriculum. Students are introduced to an account of the development of English curriculum in secondary education. Through an examination of the National Statement and the various State-based curricula, students are familiarised with current developments in English literacy education. As a precursor to school placement for practice teaching, students will be provided with opportunities to begin to develop skills in lesson planning, curriculum planning, teaching strategies and procedures.

Assessment: Assessment: written assignment (2000 words); development of curriculum materials (2000 words)

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Prerequisites: Bachelor of Arts with a major study in English or linguistics, a minor study in English or linguistics is essential.
