Synopsis: This unit will examine the social, political and economic contexts which influence and impact on Australian families using Brofenbrenner's ecological systems theory as the theoretical framework. The links between the macro, micro and chrono systems and their importance for family and child well-being, cohesiveness and stability will be analysed. The professional's response to family diversity will be emphasised. Students will broaden their perspective of professional involvement with families through a case study of a community service which supports families.

Assessment: Task 1: Assignment based on children's relationships with their families (3000 words): 60%; Written report of family-oriented services within a community (2000 words): 40%
