Risk Management and Emergency Response (6 points)

Synopsis: Skills in risk management, injury prevention and first aid practice. Legal requirements of conducting sport and outdoor recreation activities. Theory and application of risk management skills in outdoor pursuits selected from bushwalking, climbing/abseiling, cross-country skiing and kayaking (including sea kayaking). Students have the opportunity to complete the level three First Aid and Safety Certificate (outdoor response) and a basic sports injuries treatment certificate.

Assessment: Journal and assignment (2000 words): 50% + Class test: 50% + Satisfactory participation and demonstration of first aid and injury treatment

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Prerequisites: EDF1604 or approved equivalent
