Synopsis: Signals via optical fibres: linear and non linear effects, attenuation and amplification, dispersion, polarisation, multiplexing techniques. Optical systems: transmission techniques for Gbps data rates. DWDM optical fibre communications systems and networks.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 70% + Laboratory and assignment work: 30%
