ECC4510Economic history of modern europe (6 points)(BUS) Leader: Dr Geoff Spenceley
Offered: Synopsis: Students will undertake in-depth studies of controversial aspects of modern European economic history. Topics covered include Fascist economies, the impact of global capital on Europe; movement towards European economic integration; the Second World War; the growth of consensual capitalism; attempts at revitalising the west European economies since 1970; features of, and attempts to reform, the Stalinist economic and political system; the collapse of the socialist economies; problems of transforming the former socialist economies; and the prospects for European economies in the light of these changes. Assessment: Essay (4000 words): 40% + Seminar presentation: 40% + Seminar participation: 20% Contact Hours: 3-hours per week |
