DTS2050Asian Theatre (6 points)(ARTS) Leader: Rachel Fensham
Offered: Synopsis: This unit will introduce students to Asian theatre work, both past and present. A special focus will be given to recent developments in Asian theatre, including the community theatre movement in the Phillipines and Thailand; contemporary Japanese theatre such as Butoh; and intercultural work by Ong Keng Sen (Singapore) and Rustom Bharucha (India). The unit will emphasise reading this performance work in the historical and political context of Asian societies. Assessment: Class exercises (2700 word equivalent): 60% + essay (1800 words): 40% Contact Hours: 2 hour workshop per week Prerequisites: First year Arts Prohibitions: DTS3050 |
