Synopsis: This unit explores the multi-disciplinary nature of design by introducing the characteristics of space, objects and images as part of a designer's repertoire of knowledge and understanding. Basic design studies provide the framework for the development of a language of design. The understanding of the role of the designer in producing habitats, artifacts and communications for the enhancement of the human experience of contemporary environments is developed by observation, critical enquiry, interpretation, communication and the creation of visual forms.
