Synopsis: An introduction to understanding and designing digital logic circuits. Concepts: number systems, binary codes, logic operations, logic gates, and Boolean algebra. Topics include ICs and logic families, combinational logic circuits, standard forms, minimisation, MSI building blocks, latches, flip-flops and clocked sequential logic. Students will use CAD tools for design and simulations work. A 'chipkit' and 'breadboard' system is used for wiring circuit prototypes.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 55% + Practical work: 30% + Tests, tutorial work and assignments: 15%
