Digital design 1 (6 points)

Synopsis: Knowledge and skills for practical digital systems design and analysis. Models of clocked synchronous state machines, Algorithmic State Machines (ASM), ASM charts and synthesis, state reduction and state assignment, typical combinational and sequential digital circuits. Introduction to Hardware Description Language for digital system design and implementation, programmable logic and gate array devices and their applications for digital circuit and system design and implementation. Application memory elements and issues on metastability, synchroniser failure, system testability and reliability.

Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 60% + Practical work: 40%

Contact Hours: Two 1-hour lectures and one 2-hour practical class per week

Prerequisites: CSE1101 or equivalent
