CPE5007Object oriented middleware (6 points)(IT) Leader: TBA
Offered: Synopsis: Overall view of various object oriented middleware standards and what approaches are best suited to a given problem domain. Emphasises and investigates the advantages and disadvantages of each, detailing the common properties of each architecture where appropriate. Emphasis will be placed on the ability to apply understanding of the principles, methodology, tools and techniques to develop a successful distributed software system in a professional manner. Example implementations may include Java RMI, Enterprise Java Beans, OMG's Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA), Java Servlet, Sockets and Microsoft's Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM). Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 30% + Assignments: 30% + Written report: 40% Prerequisites: Admission to the Master of Network Computing, or equivalent Masters level programs of the faculty, competent object oriented developers, preferably with Java, but other language such as Smalltalk and C Prohibitions: SFT5000 |
