Offered: Synopsis: This subject provides an overview of distributed database management issues, including concurrency control, restart and recovery, security, query optimisation, transaction management, distributed database design, fragmentation and replication and implementation. Building distributed systems with Oracle DBMS and Net8. Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 60% + Practical Assignments: 40% Contact Hours: 4 hours per week Prerequisites: CPE2005 plus a further 6 points of 2nd year Network Computing units.
