COM4413Writing, Media Cultures, Citizens (12 points)(ARTS) Leader: Dr Mary Griffiths
Offered: Synopsis: Applies cultural and communications theoretical frameworks to the production, circulation and reception of media texts in postcolonial societies. Examines a range of writing practices in new media forms; cultural difference; construction of audiences; citizen practices in Australia and South East Asia. Topics include: globalisation, consumerism and reformism; national narratives and international media flows; regulation and access; on-line democracy; civic and intercultural literacies; cyber identities and virtual relations; the making of citizens and consumers. Assessment: Minor essay (1500 words): 20% + Annotated collection (1500 words): 15% + Writing proposal and literature review (1500 words): 15% + Negotiated writing project (4500 words): 50% Prerequisites: First degree in mass communications or writing or a related discipline Prohibitions: GSC4413 |
