COM4002Communications and Media History (12 points)(ARTS) Leader: John Arnold
Offered: Synopsis: Australian communications and media history especially developments over three periods - 1831-1920s (dominance of print media); 1920s to 1956 (print and radio); and 1956 to the present (print, radio and television). How technology and technological advances have influenced and directed the communications and media history of Australia beginning with the overland telegraph through to the coming of the internet are assessed and analysed. Assessment: Research essay (5000 words): 60% + Issue study (1300 words): 10% + Book review (1300 words): 10% + Critique of individual journal (1300 words): 10% + Seminar participation: 10% Contact Hours: 2-hour seminar per week |
