COM3413Communications Industries and Policies (6 points)(ARTS) Leader: Dr Robert Briggs
Offered: Synopsis: Contemporary media and communications industries are examined in their social, political, economic and organisational contexts. Examples from Australia, Singapore and Malaysia will be analysed in some detail. Global and local "forces" such as technological convergence, deregulation, globalisation and commercialisation are examined as historical ideas, and governments' policy responses to them charted. Students will examine recent developments in one of the media/communications industries as an individual research project. Assessment: Essay (2500 words): 50%; + Examination (2 hours): 50% Contact Hours: 2 hours per week (1-hour lecture, 1-hour tutorial) |
