CLS4650Seeing/Reading Text (12 points)(ARTS) Leader: Clive Probyn
Offered: Synopsis: The unit offers the opportunity to investigate a range of theoretical topics and to read works which have changed the ways in which contemporary critics consider the written and visual text. For example, what are Phenomenology, Reception Theory, Critical Theory, post-Humanism? How should we think about the literary text, photography, the film event, the status of the work of art, artistic meaning? How have such thinkers as Bourdieu, Derrida, Barthes altered what can be said about text? Assessment: Two tutorial papers (2000 words) 20% each: 40% + Essay (5000 words): 50% concepts. + Participation in discussion: 10% Contact Hours: 2 hour seminar per week Prerequisites: a major in any one of the School disciplines (or equivalent) Prohibitions: VSA4650, ENH4650 |
