Timber and masonry structures (4 points)

Synopsis: Design for durability, strength, serviceability, stability and fire. Loadings. Timber material properties. Stress Grading system. Strength, deflections and stability. Masonry, types by brick type and construction form (unreinforced and reinforced), design methods for unreinforced walls subject to vertical loads and bending action.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 50% + Practical/project work: 50%

Contact Hours: 13 lectures, 26 hours of tutorial/workshop classes

Prerequisites: ENG1201
