Synopsis: Through the study of graded Chinese news articles and TV news broadcasts, this unit will introduce students to the language and issues of contemporary Chinese current affairs. Topics covered include politics, economics, human rights, the environment, international relations and current social issues.

Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 40% + Four translation and internet-based exercises (500 words): 40% + Listening comprehension tests (1 hour): 20%

Contact Hours: 3 hours (3 x seminars) per week

Prerequisites: CHI2335 or equivalent
