Synopsis: Basic model building in mathematical programming. Unconstrained optimisation. Analytical and iterative methods. Constrained optimisation of continuous systems. Optimisation theory and basic algorithms. Discrete and integer aspects in optimisation. Branch and bound methods. Superstructure approach for process design. Applications of optimisation in process integration.

Assessment: Examination: 80% Assignment: 20%
