Synopsis: Mathematical modelling: purpose of modelling; types of models; model building; model simplification. Developing constitutive relations (experimental, correlation); model testing, lumped and distributed models; sensitive analysis. Chemical modelling: introduction; equilibrium; modelling reactions; modelling phase equilibria; vapour phase non-ideality. Liquid phase non-ideality: solution models (Van Laar, Margules, Wilson, NRTL, UNIQUAC); group contribution methods (UNIFAC, ASOG).

Assessment: Examination: 90% Assignment: 10%
