Synopsis: Legal implications of staff management decisions. Individual employer-employee relationship; contract of employment; wages-work bargain; recruitment law; termination law including unfair dismissals; mutuality of legal rights and obligations; employer-employee duties of care; health and safety law in the workplace; Occupational Health and Safety Act 1985 (Vic.); vicarious liability; industrial action; constitutional considerations and discrimination law.

Assessment: Assignment (3500 words): 40% + Examination (3 hour, open book): 60%

Contact Hours: 3 class hours per week

Prerequisites: BTW1200 or equivalent
