Clinical dietetics II: Lifespan related diseases (6 points)

Synopsis: This subject develops the skills attained in BND 3041 in terms of nutritional requirements across the lifespan and examines the a etiology and management of common nutrition related diseases in different age groups. The nutrition components and the place of nutrition in the medical management of these conditions in the context of the requirements for macro and micro nutrients from infancy to old age will be examined. Example of topics to be studied include failure to thrive, osteoporosis, gestational diabetes, simple disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and alternative nutrition and fad diets.

Assessment: Examination: 40% + Tutorial participation and case studies: 30% + Presentation: 30%

Contact Hours: 6 hours per week contact

Prerequisites: Completion of BND3021 and BND3041 in Year 3, semester 1 Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics.
