Clinical dietetics I (6 points)

Synopsis: The unit will focus on the medical and nutritional management of diet-related diseases encountered in a clinical or community setting. Case based learning will be used to impart the principles of dietetics specifically to nutritional management of overweight and obesity, cardiovascular disease and Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Students will learn how to thoroughly assess each new client and develop ongoing plans for nutritional care. Students will undertake one major case study during this course for which they will complete a thorough nutritional assessment, an evaluation of the relevant clinical problems and for which they then develop a long-term nutritional care plan.

Assessment: Examination: 60% + Analysis in tutorial sessions 10% + Class presentation: 30%

Contact Hours: 6 hours per week clinical experience

Prerequisites: Completion of Year 2 Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics, completion of BND3021, BND3041.
