Health policy and management (6 points)

Synopsis: This subject will enable students to examine the characteristics influencing health policy and will introduce them to the management of health care services. It will examine the basis of interventions aimed at achieving population health and forces guiding the management and reform of health services, as well as the overarching roles and tasks involved. Potential sources of power and influence in health care settings will be explored, and issues surrounding team management, change and conflict. Students will also have the opportunity to study in detail a health promotion program, a health service managerial tool or a specific management approach of their choice.

Assessment: Group written presentation: 35% + Group class presentation (20 minutes): 35%, Essay: 30%

Contact Hours: 6 hours of contact time (2 hours interactive classes and 4 hours problem solving tutorials)

Prerequisites: BMS1042 and BMS2062
