Mediation (6 points)

Synopsis: This unit introduces students to a range of conflict resolution principles and strategies, and explores their relative merits and limitations. Students will be able to research and present specific interests within the mediation domain. Students will engage in on-going role-plays to develop skills of conflict analysis, active listening, purposive questioning, and reframing. Particular empahsis will be given to family mediation practice such that on completion students will have gained half the required training (level one) to become approved mediators.

Assessment: Video presentation and write-up of mediation: 40% + Test (1 hour): 20% + Essay (2000 words): 40% + Attendance requirement: 80% of classes

Contact Hours: 2 hours per week (2-hour workshop)

Prerequisites: 96 points of an undergraduate degree
