ANY3250The Anthropology of Witchcraft and Sorcery (6 points)(ARTS) Leader: Don Miller
Offered: Synopsis: The unit examines witchcraft and sorcery as aspects of magico-religious systems of thought and practice in a variety of cross-cultural and historical settings, including contemporary Europe. On the basis of selected case studies, the relationship of witchcraft and sorcery to issues such as rationality, religiosity and power is discussed. Assessment: One review (1500 words): 30% + Essay (3000 words): 70% Contact Hours: 2 hours per week Prerequisites: ANY second year or by permission |
