Advanced auditing and professional practice (6 points)

Synopsis: This subject considers both theoretical (i.e. the economics of auditing, behavioural dimensions of auditing) and practical issues relevant to the various participants to the audit process. Topics studied include demand and supply of assurance services; determinants of audit quality; corporate governance and the audit process, the audit expectation gap; the changing nature of internal control systems, the prevention and detection of fraud; curent developments in internal auditing; performance and environmental auditing, human judgement and decision processes in auditing, methods of decision-making in auditing, and future directions in assurance services.

Assessment: Class presentation and case studies: 20% + Research report (2500 words): 30% + Examination (2 hours): 50%

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week, or equivalent
