Offered: Synopsis: Growing up in a family business can be a tough act to follow. Whether or not to join the family business, whether joining would be an opportunity or an obligation, and when to join can be very difficult decisions for heirs. A son's or daughter's decision to join the family firm carries heavy emotional freight, bound up as it is with their relationship with their parents. Unless heirs understand what they are getting into, the decision could lead to disappointment and disillusionment that threaten not only the parent-child relationship, but also the business. Assessment: Assignment (1500 words): 10% + Group case study (4000 words): 40% + Group presentation: 10% + Examination: 40% Contact Hours: One 3-hour lecture per week |
