Synopsis: This subject examines the development of Japan's financial sector and the impact of economic, legal, regulatory and taxation factors; the role and operations of Japanese banks and other financial institutions, money market, bond and sharemarkets, and foreign exchange market; the internationalisation and deregulation of Japanese banking and finance; and Tokyo as a financial centre.

Assessment: Class discussion and participation: 10% + Assignment (4000-5000 words): 30% + Examination (3 hours): 60%

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Prerequisites: AFX1300 and ECX1710
