This course, offered by the School of Nursing, is designed to respond to the need within industry for specialist nurses who are able to care for the ill child and family. An extensive and diverse range of clinical experience is offered, incorporating children of varying age, with a wide range of health care needs and levels of acuity, within the hospital and the community.
Applicants would normally have a degree in nursing or a related discipline; registration with the Nurses Board of Victoria (Division 1 or eligible for registration); and at least one year of professional clinical experience. Special entry may be available.
Students will be required to undertake four elective units and four specialist core units, for a total of eight units. Students may enrol full-time and complete the course in one year. Alternatively, in a part-time enrolment, students will normally complete the course in two years. Units are scheduled in a manner that enables students to undertake part-time employment.
Assessment includes clinical performance, case studies, written assignments, completion of learning packages and examinations.
