This course, offered by the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, gives health professionals the attitudes, skills and knowledge necessary to provide preventive health services to reduce the health impact of disease and injury resulting from workplace and community factors. The course can be taken full-time over one year or part-time over two years and is offered by off-campus learning with compulsory block requirements each semester. This degree caters for the special needs of medical practitioners, nurses, allied health personnel, scientists and OHS managers. The course articulates with the Master of Occupational and Environmental Health or the Master of Public Health.
Applicants must have a medical degree, a bachelors degree with honours or graduate diploma, or a three-year bachelors degree with at least two years relevant professional experience in a health-related field. The department will individually assess applications from students without a three-year degree but with extensive relevant professional experience. In such instances the department may require completion of the Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health before enrolling in the graduate diploma.
This course is comprised of five core units and two elective options, comprising of three units.
* Recommended for articulation into the Master of Public Health.
Assessment includes web-based tasks, written assignments, examinations, practical exercises and student presentations.
