Graduate Diploma in Accounting

Course code: 1743 + Course abbreviation: GradDipAcc + Course director: Mr Brian Conheady + Offered by off-campus learning from the Faculty of Business and Economics - Gippsland campus + Normally completed in six semesters of part-time study

The Graduate Diploma in Accounting is designed as a conversion course for students with a degree in a field other than accounting who wish to obtain a sound introduction to accounting concepts and procedures.

Applicants require a pass degree in a non-accounting discipline or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution or an executive certificate from this faculty with an average grade of credit or above. Note that students who take this pathway will still need a degree qualification for entry to CPA Australia or ICAA. This requirement may be satisfied if students complete a further four units in the Master of Practising Accounting, which is currently not offered by off-campus learning. Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of six credit exemptions for units considered to be equivalent to particular units in the course of study. Credit is restricted to study completed in the last five years. Refer to the course director for further details.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Faculty of Business and Economics as to the 2003 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.
Completion of the Graduate Diploma of Accounting will enable graduates to meet the academic requirements for admission to the CPA Australia program and the Professional Year program of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Course structure

It is expected that those wishing to undertake such a course will be in employment and will undertake the course outside normal working hours. The off-campus mode of study is particularly appropriate for such people, and the work experience of students will enable them to understand the concepts more rapidly.

The course consists of the following 12 core units:

This program may be varied by arrangement with the course director.
