Graduate Certificate in Management

This four-unit course provides management and organisation-related topics for graduates who are ready to focus on developing their leadership skills and abilities. The course content focuses on an appreciation of the management role and the crucial contribution that managers make to organisational effectiveness. The course examines major theories and concepts concerning the behaviour and performance of individuals and groups in organisations.

There is particular emphasis on the manager as change facilitator. Students are encouraged to recognise the importance of effective change management and to demonstrate an understanding of various change models and frameworks, their relevant foundations, strengths and weaknesses, and to apply these to real-life situations.
Applicants require a pass degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution. Applicants without a first degree who have a minimum of six years appropriate employment experience should refer to the section on executive certificates. Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of two credit exemptions for units considered to be equivalent to particular units in the course of study. Credit is restricted to study completed in the last five years. The course director assesses credit exemptions.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Department of Management as to the 2003 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.
Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Management may apply for the Graduate Diploma in Management or the Master of Management and would be eligible for exemption from four units.

The course consists of two core units and two electives.
