Postgraduate diplomas in the Faculty of Arts are one-year (or part-time equivalent) programs that build on knowledge acquired in a bachelors degree. The entry requirement is normally a bachelors degree with a major or specialisation in the area covered by the postgraduate diploma.
Graduate diplomas are one-year (or part-time equivalent) programs that allow
students to acquire knowledge in a new area. They have an entry requirement of
a bachelors degree in any discipline.
Note that students in both the graduate and postgraduate diplomas, with the
exception of the Graduate Diploma in Languages (see below), undertake
postgraduate level four units, and only in special circumstances may obtain
permission to enrol in undergraduate units.
The minimum entry requirement for graduate diplomas is normally a bachelors degree. Postgraduate dipomas normally require a bachelors degree with a credit average in the final year.
The Graduate Diploma in Languages allows students to complete the equivalent of an undergraduate major in a chosen language selected from Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Spanish, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Ukrainian. This course is equivalent to one year full- time (48 points), but as language units must be studied sequentially it is normally completed over three years of part-time study. Information on how to meet the requirements of a major in each language can be found under the `Areas of study' section on the faculty website at http://www.arts.monash.edu.au/. Hard copies of this document are also available at the faculty offices.
