Postgraduate Diploma in Infrastructure Engineering and Management


General Information

Course code: 3263 + Clayton campus + HECS liable (fee-paying places available once HECS quota is reached) + Cost: Australian students - TBA ($1250 per six-credit-point unit in 2002); international students - $1500 per six-credit-point unit

Aims

The course is intended for graduate engineers scientists and economists. However, students from other professional backgrounds working in the infrastructure area will be accepted into the program. Graduates will understand the need to plan, develop and maintain infrastructure at a high level. They will also be able to evaluate alternative projects and policies in a rigorous manner, plan and execute the development of infrastructure projects, communicate their arguments effectively to teams and clients and critically evaluate their and othersí work.

Professional recognition

The course satisfies the continuing education requirements of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.

Entry requirements

There is no direct entry into the program. Normal admission will be allowed for students completing the Graduate Certificate in Infrastructure Engineering and Management with a 65 per cent average.

Course duration

The course is normally completed in two years by off-campus learning (based on two units per semester) with a maximum of four years part-time (based on one unit per semester).

Resource requirements

Off-campus learning material in the form of study guides and CD-ROMs are currently being developed and will be made available to all students. Prescribed textbooks will be available from the university bookshop. Students will require access to a computer with email and internet access, either at home or via commercial access points or facilities at local libraries etc.
