Bachelor of Arts (Honours)


General Information

Course code: 0003 Arts disciplines, 3060 Social Welfare + Gippsland campus + HECS fees applicable + Attendance may be compulsory

Aims

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) program is a fourth year of study following completion of normal requirements for the Bachelor of Arts pass degree. The honours program offers an opportunity for more specialised, advanced work in either one or two chosen disciplines. The completion of an honours degree can enhance employment opportunities in a wide range of careers, and the acquisition of research skills can lead to further postgraduate studies.

Entry requirements

Current Monash arts students must have a completed a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in the intended discipline area, a minimum of 36 points at second and third-year levels, and a distinction grade of at least 70 per cent or better in units to the value of not less than 18 points at third-year level, and an additional six points at a grade of 70 per cent or higher at either second and third-year levels.
Students who have completed a three-year degree at a higher education other than Monash University must provide a certified copy of their transcript and supporting documentation regarding content of their course. This course content must be approved by the school as being acceptable for entry.

PC requirement

To complete this course satisfactorily, it is strongly recommended that students have access to a PC, a modem and the world wide web.

Attendance

Students are required to meet minumum attendance requirements determined by each discipline area.

Course structure

The course is normally taken part-time over two years for students enrolled by off-campus learning. Students must complete two coursework units in their first year and write a minor thesis of no more than 15,000 words (dissertation) in their second year of study. Disciplines offered by off-campus learning include history, politics, social welfare and sociology.
