Pharmacy practice I

42 lectures, 8 hours of whole class tutorials and 36 hours of small group tutorials and practical work

Synopsis: Professional pharmacy. Historical aspects and the roles of modern day pharmacists. The prescription. Dispensing. Legal aspects of pharmacy. Commonly used drugs. Communications in pharmacy practice. Introduction of dosages and dose forms. The use of English. Report writing. Human behaviour. Nature of human behaviour. Development. Perception. Consciousness and control. Conditioning and learning. Remembering. Emotions and motivation. Mental abilities. Personality and its assessment. Abnormal behaviour. Conflict and stress. The therapies.

Assessment: Progress examination (May) (1.5 hours): 10% + Human behaviour essay (2000 words): 15% + Practical assessment (year's work and test): 15% + End-of-year examination (2.5 hours): 60% + Dispensing: Students are required to reach a satisfactory level of competence in dispensing by the end of the course.
