TAD2403Aesthetics and Art Practice 1: The Nature of Art(A&D)
3 points + Two hours lectures/tutorials and 4 hours independent study per week + First semester + Caulfield + Prerequisites: 2 second-year level TAD units + Prohibitions: TAD2402, TAD2412 Synopsis: The concept of art - its scope and variability. Fundamental issues of art including representation, aesthetic experience, the expression of emotion and creativity. The concept of beauty - its possible meanings and how these depend on particular cultural frameworks discussed. Symbolism - how its meaning is generated and how it is used. The validity of definition in art. Assessment: Project:50% + Research book (2000 words):50% |
