6 points + 104 hours of lectures, tutorials and site visits on locations in Europe, and 52 hours of independent study; Internal with overseas fieldwork + Second semester + Caulfield, but using overseas bases for block teaching + Prerequisites: TAD1101, TAD1102 + Substantial travel and accommodation costs which are to be paid by the student to the tour provider + May be taken as an elective unit of any faculty

Synopsis: The course will trace the development of visual culture of Europe from Roman times to the present day, using the city of Paris as the focal point. Particular emphasis will be placed on four especially significant periods; the Gothic, Baroque and Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries. A major thematic focus will be the exploration of the communication of ideas, value and beliefs via the tangible visual evidence of art, architecture and urban fabric. The course will concentrate on the cultural development of Paris. The city offers an ideal base from which to study significant cultural developments of Europe.

Assessment: Two essays 1250 words each (50%) +Research book 2000 words (50%)
